An unusual welcome

by Foxwriter @ 2008-06-26 - 15:31:49

So, second day and I seem to have mastered the art - or is it the science - of elementary blogging i.e. my first post is still here!

And, on logging in (or is that 'blogging in') I see I have two messages. How heartening, I must be popular.

Ah, wait a moment.

One is from the blog administrator welcoming me to UK Blog. Well, thank 'ee kindly, my dear sir (or madam). Wherever 'here' is. (Sorry Princess Di).

And the second message?

A romantic epistle from a lady on Yahoo mail telling me how much she likes my profile and urging me to contact her as soon as possible for romance and companionship.

Oh! Be still my singing heart! Romance at last?

Call me a cynic. Call me world-weary. Call me suspicious.

(Call me a taxi if you wish)!

But the prospect of an immediate 'sympatico' heart-meets-heart, eyes meet across a crowded room scenario on my very first day? With an email name from Africa? With MY profile? (Thirteenth Duke of Wimbome notwithstanding).

No. Thank you, Miss Okoye.

Maybe I will be proven wrong and you are my dream girl, but in the meanwhile I must decline your tantalising, voluptuous invitation and confine myself instead to writing more drivel such as this.

Hey ho. Back to the salt mines.

Not quite how I imagined you really.

Still.......

What?

I should say so.........;)

Imagined me????
Not sure how to take that.
I mean - errr
that's not actually ME you know.
I just...
I should say so too...
Whatever it was you just said ;)

You mean, you mean......that IS NOT YOU?

Oh! Oh no!

My poor shattered illusions, shaken core, shivered timbers and shuttered mind.

Can I ever face the world again?

BTW, I liked your piece on scientific v political debate, and must say I have to agree.

Although we could have a whole evening's argument (debate, discussion, discourse??) on absolute values in aesthetics.

It would depend, of course, on the volume of wine consumed.

;)

'Fraid not... THIS is me :(
BUT that sounds like an excellent suggestion.
Is this a date?
(Hint: somewhere on the Left Bank would be my choice of location).
PS Is your mind 'Shuttered' or 'shattered'?
If the former, this could be the end of a beautiful friendship :(
The latter?
I'm used to dealing with those (or creating them - he he he... :>)

My mind is shuttered to stop it becoming shattered but if the sun comes out I can open them quite easily.

If you pick the venue, can I pick the wine?

Please do :)
But surely, shutters are there to be closed when the sun comes out, and protect whatever is within from the glare????

Good point, but I always have been a little different!

Now about that wine..........

Red for me please
White is acceptable only on condition that it has bubbles... and comes from a very specific region of France. :)

Perfect answer.

I do hope you have expensive tastes.

Very!!!
I do hope you have deep pockets ;)

Another pleasing answer. Someone capable of extravagent and exotic spending.

Deep pockets? Very deep pockets. In fact they are so deep, at quiet times I hear strange noises from the depths.

Probably squatters. I must ring the local council and see if they have a man who knows about these things.

Do you have a favorite fizz?

Pol Roger is the current choice, however the Krug has just run out and I am in a wistful mood! x

Nahh mate, not me, I'm no conner sewer, just so's the bubbles tickle me nose (hee hee)
...oops...
Have I just shattered this carefully constructed illusion?
:(

Yep!

Utterly shattered beyond hope.

However, keep talking. You interest me strangely......

This is what we like to hear
Keep it up, you silver-tongued flatterer, you ;)

Counterpoint. That's the word.

Or is it counter-intuitive?

Maybe confusing is better.....?

Now look what you have done. Got me all fired up on a Monday. And that will never do.

Who ARE you? ;)

Contrapunctal???

Who wants to know? ;)

I think I should make you guess. I'm sure you've had enough clues by now

Perhaps I am a mythical princess and seer...

Perhaps I am Jemima Puddleduck - never that.

Or perhaps I am someone closer to home?
A lady of many facets and many contradictions (or contrapunctions).
With, I like to think, a certain facility with words...
And a sore bum :(

The Great Detective has lost his fine edge?

In earlier, simpler times....ah well, you don't want to hear of earlier and simpler times.

I hope Oxford agrees with you and the seats are kind to your fundament.

I shall await your speedy return ;)

Simpler?
I don't 'do' simple, as the youngsters say.
But fear not, if you believe you have solved my riddle, I have others in store ;)
Now, where's that filing cabinet?
xx

PS You're a taxi.
Always good to meet a fellow-driveler.
