I am tempted to say that everything is derivative.
Your use of red as a 'character' I have come across before. It is a colour that lends itself to metaphor and allegory, as do many children's stories, and the descriptions of animal behaviour, the lion, the gazelle, the cat and so on.
Sounds like you had a great time though - if you came through the other side with a clear head and a new sense of perspective that can only be a good thing :) more…
